DEPARTMENT:MOLECULAR IMAGING AND NEUROPATHOLOGY
 
DUTIES:The Department of Molecular Imaging & Neuropathology is seeking a full-time bioinformatics programmer to work on a large-scale epigenomics study of human disease, with particular focus on neuropsychiatric disorders including depression, schizophrenia, and autism. This project involves combining genomics, genetics, and clinical data. It will use pipelines to other large databases such GenBank combined with extensive in-house data generation to store and analyze information on epigenetic disease profiles. Responsibilities: The role of bioinformatics programmer will be to develop data analysis pipelines and exchanges with other biological databases as well as web-based interfaces to our in-house database.
 
EDUCATION:Bachelor's or master's degree (or equivalent) in Computer Science with a Bioinformatics background or Bioinformatics with a strong Computer Science component.
 
TRAINING & EXPERIENCE:The successful candidate must have excellent Java and Perl programming skills as well as experience working with BioPerl. Solid background in mySQL, relational databases, and HTML/XML is also required. Unix systems administration skills and experience with version control systems (ideally CVS) is essential. Strong written and oral communication skills plus the ability to work well independently and as part of a team are critical. Candidate should have at least basic knowledge of molecular and developmental biology.
