POSITION:Project Adminstrator, Level I Grade 14
Salary: $38,433.00 + $3,026.00 Location Pay
 
DEPARTMENT:MENTAL HEALTH SERVICES RESEARCH AND POLICY
 
DUTIES:Project Connect is a new clinical program for frequent users of the psychiatric emergency department at the Columbia University Medical Center. Individuals enrolled in Project Connect will receive recovery-oriented case management services for up to 6 months following discharge from the ER in an effort to try to decrease utilization of the ER and increase engagement in outpatient treatment among frequent users of psychiatric emergency services. Project Connect utilizes the “Critical Time Intervention” model. The CTI specialist will be responsible for providing recovery-oriented case management services to clients, many of whom will have co-occurring disorders (mental illness and substance use disorders) and some of whom will be homeless. Responsibilities will include: engaging clients in a collaborative relationship, conducting assessments, developing treatment plans, assisting clients in applying for housing and other entitlements, accompanying clients to appointments with service providers, advocating for clients, helping clients further develop their support networks, and assisting clients in developing crisis management and other life skills. Services will be provided primarily in the community, with CTI specialists meeting clients in their homes or public locations. CTI specialists will receive training in the CTI model.
 
EDUCATION:Bachelor's degree preferred.
 
TRAINING & EXPERIENCE:Must have experience working with clients with mental illness, substance use disorders, and/or the homeless. Must have experience with community-based work (e.g. case management, outreach, etc.).
 
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:Excellent communication, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills required. Must be able to work both independently and as part of a team. Position will require both creativity and flexibility. Significant field work is required. Bilingual (Spanish/English) strongly preferred. Individuals in recovery from mental illness and/or substance use disorders are encouraged to apply. This is a grant-funded position until August 2010. Prefer candidates who can commit for entire grant period, contingent on continuous funding.
